Moonrider, Glenarm. 11th May 2002

After driving for 4 hours from Athlone to the little village of Glenarm, just past Larne, we saw signs giving directions to the track. When we saw these we knew that this event was going to be a mad laugh and well organised.

The track was a real fast one with a good few differant lines to keep the options open.

At 3 O'Clock the track was opened for practise. This went one until about 7. Then the qualifying started. In the overage group there were only 64 places up for grabs which means that riders had to get a good run in to be asured a place in the finals. All of the under age group (U 14 & U16) were let in to the finals. This meant that there would only be three in the underage group because of an uneven number of competitors. My practise run was pretty slow but clean. Andy got a good time in his qualifying.

There was a break inbetween qualifying and the race runs to allow the track to be fixed up and watered.

In round one Andy was in heat 2 or 3 and he took the win. I was in heat 5 and I also took the win. But round two was a differant story, Andy was in heat 2 and I was in heat 3. Andy was in second place when the rider in front had a fall and caused Andy to mess up his line and he went over the bars, he was taken to the ambulance to be checked out and he was sent to hospidal with a suspected broken arm....He returned back to the tent at about 2.30am and said he tore the tenents in his arm. I was in 3rd place after the tripple stepdown and there was a small collision on the 2nd berm between K. Nelson and a lad on a Kona Stab. I got out in front of Klye and I tought I was leading when the other rider on the stab came through the tape and cut me off. I was trying hard to get past him but I ended up in second, not enough to get into the finals. Greg O'Keffe took the win in the underage group.

In the overage group there was some fast racing going on, Colin Ross was on form and was flying. Glyn O'Brien took the win. Ben Reid was also flying and was putting up a good fight all night. He received an award for fastest youth.

Before and after the award giving there were a few riders trying tricks over the last tabletop with the cork boys pulling a few nice ones. As for me I couldn't really pull off anything because i was so tried. Joe ward had a big fall when him and glyn and a few others were doing a train.

By about 1.30am most of the people there were pissed and there were mad things going on in the car park.

I would like to thank the Sweeneys for giving me a lift, Red Bull for organising it, Glyn OB and Honcho for designing a wicked track, and of course the land owner, and anyone that helped.
